Just a quick line

bfarber.com was moved to a new server yesterday, and while a couple posts here and there may have been lost, overall the move was pretty smooth.

We're running with:
--Dual Xeon 3.0 w/ Hyperthreading CPUs
--1 GB DDR Ram
--80 GB HD + 120 GB HD

I think this server will more than satisfiy the needs of the site for several years to come. biggrin.gif Thanks goes to the owners for "footing the bill" and for managing the move, which went extremely well. smile.gif

Thanks for your input! Actually we are not totally satisfied with the server. There seems to be many occassions when it is overloaded. I think the problem mainly lies with another high demand site on the server sad.gif

http://xbox-skins.net

This site is very similar to Bfarber and uses the same skin download mod by Brandon. However, it uses 3 times the bandwidth of bfarber.com

Accordingly, we have just added 1Gig RAM to the server, making a total of 2Gigs. We will see whether the situation improves or not. If not, we may move the site to another server of similar specifications.

Yours Sincerely

Derek

It seems that the server ran into problems immediately after the RAM was upgraded. The loads on the server reached horrific levels and it seems to have something to do with MySql usage of xbox-skins. sad.gif

Therefore as a precautionary step, we have moved bfarber.com to another server. This is a dual opteron 244 server with 1GB RAM and dual 120G hard drives. Brandon and I will be monitoring this situation closely for the next few days. If the site runs smoothly, we will leave it on this server.

We have lost a few posts and new members during this move. We would appreciate if you can sign up and post again. I am sorry for the inconvenience and hope it will be very long time before the site is moved again.

Regards

Derek
