When i turn the gear to ajust it for some reason it goes back to the same position. My playstation is a version 3 and it will only read silverbacks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the same problem you do. My PS2 is version 1, which means it has the brass gear that touches the adjustment wheel

Newer versions only have a metal tab that touches the adjustment wheel.

So whenever we turn our PS2 on or off, the little brass gear turns and automatically sets the adjustment wheel back to it's original position. I've been scouring the web to find the answer to this and nobody seems to know.

My Friend has a PS2 with 10 screws. Mine has 8 but we got them at the same time from the same place. Huh? Well both are now having frequent disk read errors. I opened his up and adjusted the white wheel. Games started to work. I put all the screws in and turned it off. The next time we tried to use it...Disk Read error. I opened it back up and saw that the white wheel was in the same place that I had marked (not placed it at.) Long story short, or shortly story long, don't use the button with the red/green LED light. Unplug and plug it back up with the cord. Use the button with the blue LED and open the tray to change disks. To reset it, unplug it, remember not to use the button with the red/green LED light. I don' t know if the on/off switch on the back makes a difference for the better or worse.

Hey

I've done the rotor moving situation where you move the little white thing left and right so many clicks until it reads everything, and now about 6 or so months later I'm having a whole brand new problem with disk read errors.

I've tried it with two different brand new games now (Dynasty Warriors: Empires and Suikoden 4). I don't remember what Dynasty Warriors was, but Suikoden 4 is a DVD-ROM. My playstation will read my other DVD-style games, but it just wont pick up this one. The game is brand new and in perfect condition. Any idea what I can do so I can play this game?

Nick

I have done this to my ps2 before and it worked.  Now i had the same problem and when i pulled the cover off my ps2 i went to far and the ribbon w./ the wires pulled off.  The end on the open button is still connected but the other end came off.  Now for the life of me i cant figure out were it goes.  Can anyone help me?

Don't worry the same thing happened to me when I opened it. On the side where the ribbon was look down into the playstation. (this is a lot easier if you take the top and bottom cover off) There is a very little tiny square which is also close to another brown ribbon. It is hard to see. You will need to take the power and eject buttons out from where they actually go to make this easier. Take the end that has metallic strips not the plastic one the metallic and try to put it into the little tiny box. This should help. (Test it. If not just turn it around it might be on the wrong side) If this is confusing tell me and Ill find a better explanation

i had that problem also but i fixed it... the ribbon is connected somewhere under the expansion bay. you may want to unscrew it and take it out. You will see something that is like a clip. put the cable on the "clip" and clip it so it is not loose. Hope this will help you. It helped me! I thought my life was over for good!

Hi, I had this error for ages and I know this is a really old thread but I have recently found a great tutorial that teaches you how to fix this error. It has step by step information and photos! Here is the page for the PS2 Disc read error Solution

Good luck
