If you use Logon Studio by Stardock to create login screens, you will be forced to save your login in Stardock's proprietary format (*.logonXP). Unfortunately, not everyone can use them in this format. However, thanks to Kouran and dmmason we've found an easy way to convert those files to *.exe's.

  • First you have to use Logon Studio to make your login screen. Adjust it how you want it and save it as foofoo.logonXP where foofoo is your login screen's name.

  • Apply your login screen, switch user to get back to the welcome screen, and log back in.

  • Go to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 (or whatever your system root is...this is usually the correct path to your system root) and find logonuiX.exe. This is the file you created, but with an *.exe extension!

  • Copy this file and place it in a folder you will be including all your zipped contents in. Rename logonuiX.exe to foofoo.exe (where foofoo is your login screen's name). Gather your screenshots, readmes, and/or fonts (you may include some but not all, depending on the login screen) and zip up the files.

  • Upload the zip file to bfarber.com! smile.gif

And now you have foofoo.exe and you can get rid of foofoo.logonXP.

Please also note, Stardock now provides these same instructions on their site. You can review them here if you like.
