I recently installed a DVD-RW +/- Dual Layer 16x (Emprex 1016IM) as the master and slaved my old DVD-RW +/- 4x (Liteon-It) on the same IDE.

The problem is that every time I try to burn (nero) anything on either drive my PC shuts down.

Has anyone got any ideas please smile.gif

What version of Nero? One of the Nero versions had a MAJOR bug in which if your temp directories were ROOT C:\, when it deleted the temp files it tried to delete the hard drive (and the pc would shut down as a result). Think it was the early 6.0 version.

I know it's not. But now I'm just looking for a CD-RW/DVD-RW combo drive that has decent speeds but it's proving to be very difficult! angry1.gif

Try unplugging your slave drive (leave it in the case, just unhook the ide and power cables).

Boot up and see if your first drive works.

If it does, then it's the slave switch on your second hard drive most likely, or some sort of conflict between the two.

If your new drive by itself isn't working, try unhooking it, and setting your other drive back to primary, hooking it up, and booting up to test your old dvd drive. We'll assume for now that THAT will work, but just to be safe might as well test. If it does, then it's probably your new drive that is the problem. Perhaps your BIOS can't support it or something.
