Hey yall, I'm trying to make a backup disc via my DVD burner of all of my artwork and a few other folders on my computer.

The last time I did this, I was able to use the software that came w/ the burner (RecordNow!)

.. for some reason now, when I go to start the program, it comes back and tells me that ALL of my drives are disabled and it needs to be fixed in order to use the program.

Any ideas on what I need to do?

.. or better yet, something a little bit better to use instead of this program.

-much appreciated!

BTW: Keep in mind, I can't just burn these to a regular CD -- it's close to the 4.7GB allowed on a DVD

I have RecordNow, and haven't run into that problem as of yet. You don't have any problem accessing the drives do you (i.e. in My Computer)?

Check for any services that are installed for the program (or for DVD writing in general) and if the service is stopped, try starting it.

Is there a way, if you have the latest version of Nero 6 or greater..., to set up Nero to possibly recognize your burner for DVD burning capabilities, and use that resource, Washmur?

Else, do what I do, use another hard drive, as small as a 20GB or 40GB or what have you, and slave it from your Master cable temporarily, and reboot your computer in Safe Mode, and login as your units Administrator or your profile (if it has Admin priveledges), and copy your entire profile from the Documents and Settings folder on the system hard drive to that slaved hard drive.

Then, unplug that slaved hard drive and store it in a secure and non-moist (dry) place. Then, reboot your unit with the setup you had before.

I do this periodically, and it does help. Just my method. Its not written in concrete, you know. wink.gif

Uh oh' another TeleTubby. Die you fiends......

lol..

Anyways, I actually do the same thing...I do not have a DVD burner, so I have a secondary hard drive slaved on my 2nd IDE channel (that way the OS can access two IDE channels at the same time for optimization), then on my second slaved hard drive, I store my page file, all temp files, and my "Backup" partition. I store all my files here...problem is the hard drive is only like 4 GB, so I run out of space quick. wink.gif

As for burning DVD's though, I would imagine you could try downloading a freeware DVD burning program...there are millions out there I'm sure. smile.gif
