Anyway, Firefox and Opera are both better than IE, but I find Opera better.
Im using XP Service Pack 2, so it auto updates through a client for me.
Same here, I just go to Windows Update website onceevery while. (infact, since I find it useful, I made it my IE home page)

Firefox is NOT more secure than IE
(If you read the security corner in PC Magazine's latest issue, you will see they agree).
This is the same as "Linux is more secure than Windows" which is completely false as well. It's a mis-perception that is commonly passed around on the internet when one does not know the true facts. In fact, Firefox recently has been found to have many very major security holes (which is the reason for 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 just being released, back to back I might add). It's just that Mozilla does not go around and say "Hey, there's a big security hole you need to patch right away." In fact, to find out about the security hole at all, you need to visit security sites, or bugzine.mozilla.org and sift through thousands of bug reports (many of which are not valid, in the developers' defense). Mozilla does not operate like Microsoft. Eventually they may have to if their userbase continues to grow, but nothing says they have to tell anyone about any bugs, so they haven't been. Instead, they just make the update available. You can choose to update or not (fyi, if you haven't, make sure your installation of Firefox is on the latest release always).
As I said before, this is the same with Windows vs Linux. What it boils down to is user-base. More people use Windows and more people use IE, thus both get exploited a lot more because whatever evil things you do will get to more people if you target those two entry points. Windows XP SP2 is a very secure OS IMHO. And IE itself is not so bad a product. IE's major flaw is that it is part of the OS, it is intertwined with Windows' underbelly, thus so much of it has access to your OS that THAT is where sometimes problems end up coming from. If IE was a separate product download, just like Firefox, it wouldn't be any more or less a security hazard than Mozilla.
As the editor's of PC Magazine put it, if you use Firefox do NOT think you are more secure than IE users are. You have problems too, they are just different ones. ![]()
I hope that clears things up a bit.
