This is just a quick how-to for those of you have experienced this problem (as I have) smile.gif .

If you go to a webpage and see an image you like, you can right-click the image and choose "Save As..." to save it to your computer.

However, occasionally you will only have the option to save the image as a bitmap (BMP) file with a file name of "untitled"....even if the file isn't a BMP.

The quickest and easiest way to fix this, is to hold your ctrl key down on your keyboard, and click refresh (or hit F5 on your keyboard) to force a reload of this page. This usually will pull the correct file name and extension for your image.

9 our of 10 times this is all you will have to do and you will be able to download the images as intended. However, once in a while you will still only have BMP as the file type to save the image as in your File Type list.

If this occurs (you hit ctrl + refresh and you still only have the option to save the image as a BMP file), follow these steps...

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools->Internet Options and on the general tab, hit the button in the middle under Temporary Internet Files that reads "Delete Files". Hit ok on the popup that follows and wait for the hourglass to go away.
  2. Click "Settings" and then "View Objects". For any file listed in this window that has a Status of "Unknown" or "Damaged", right click the file and choose Remove.
  3. Hit ok a couple times and refresh the page. Try to download the image again.
    • If the image saves correctly, you are done! biggrin.gif

    • If the image still only gives you the option to save it as a BMP file, go back into Tools->Internet Options->Settings->View Objects and delete the rest of the files in this window (NOTE: the next time you need one of these objects you will be automautically prompted to download the file by Internet Explorer)

And that's that! biggrin.gif
